New York / London: Atlas Merchant Capital LLC (“Atlas”), an international financial services investment firm, is pleased to announce the launch of its credit platform. Atlas’s credit strategy will focus on sub-investment grade and distressed corporate credit opportunities, primarily in North America and Europe, with a flexible mandate to invest opportunistically across industries and capital structures in both liquid and less liquid instruments.
We believe that combining the recognized leadership in financial services at Atlas with extensive experience in bankruptcy, restructurings and performing credit provides the credit strategy with a competitive advantage in the sourcing, diligence, financing and execution of attractive investment opportunities. We also believe that the experience of our senior executives investing across economic cycles, geographies, industries and capital structures provides enhanced perspective and differentiates our credit strategy.
To lead the new credit strategy, Ty Wallach has joined Atlas as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Credit. Mr. Wallach brings 25 years of investment management experience predominantly in the sub-investment grade credit space. From 2008 to 2018, he worked at Paulson & Co., Inc., where he was a Partner and Co-Portfolio Manager of Paulson’s global credit funds. From 1994 to 2007, Mr. Wallach worked at Oak Hill Advisors, Inc., both in New York and London, where he was a Partner and, most recently, Co-Head of European Investments.
Ned Dybvig has also joined Atlas as a Managing Director in its London office. Mr. Dybvig previously worked with Mr. Wallach at Paulson & Co., where he was the senior member of Paulson’s credit team in Europe from 2012 to 2019. Prior to that, Mr. Dybvig worked at Camulos Capital LP and Soros Fund Management LLC. In total, he has nearly 20 years of experience, predominantly in distressed and sub-investment grade credit.
Bob Diamond, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas, said, “we are thrilled to announce the launch of Atlas’s credit strategy and the appointment of Ty as its CIO. We have always sought to build a world class investment management company, and we believe bringing on Ty’s extensive experience and expertise aligns with that vision. We are also extremely pleased to have Ned join us in London, as we believe having senior management in both the U.S. and Europe best serves our investors.”
David Schamis, Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Atlas, said, “this is an exciting new chapter for Atlas. The model of combining private equity and credit has proven successful, and we believe matching our financial services focus with broad expertise in corporate credit will provide even greater synergies, from sourcing through exit, for both platforms. Ty’s successful track record and history of working collaboratively with partners make him a perfect fit for Atlas, and we look forward to continuing to deliver for our investors across our investment strategies.”
Ty Wallach, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Credit, said, “I’m incredibly excited to join the talented professionals at Atlas and to continue working together with Ned. I believe Atlas’s credit strategy will benefit from the firm’s unparalleled expertise and relationships in financial services as well as its strong network of supportive investors and co-investors, and I’m excited by the investment opportunities that lie ahead.”Download as PDF
